Battle of Musgrove Mill State Historic Site preserves the ground where, on August 19, 1780, a force of about 200 Patriot militia defeated a larger Loyalist and British provincial force. The win lifted Patriot morale in South Carolina after the defeats at Camden and Fishing Creek and became a turning point in the backcountry war. A visitor center and interpretive signs tell the story of the battle and of the bitter partisan fighting that split families and communities across the upstate. A 1-mile trail follows the Enoree River to the British camp site and through old-growth forest. The site is also good for birdwatching and quiet walks, and ranger programs add context on the Revolution in the Carolina backcountry.
