Croft State Park covers more than 7,000 acres of rolling woodland a few miles from downtown Spartanburg. The land was once farmsteads and later Camp Croft, a World War II Army training base, and old homesites and remnants can still be found along the trails. The park is a regional favorite for trail users, with more than 20 miles of biking trails, about 2.5 miles of hiking-only trails and more than 20 miles of equestrian trails. An equestrian show ring hosts events, and the 165-acre Lake Craig offers fishing and paddling. The campground has about 50 sites, 25 of them with electric hookups, and picnic shelters serve groups.
