Occupying the former grounds of one of Newport's grandest estates, Brenton Point State Park on renowned Ocean Drive affords one of the most commanding views on the East Coast, where Narragansett Bay meets the Atlantic Ocean. The 89-acre site is ideal for picnicking, hiking, bird watching, kite flying, fishing and enjoying the ocean views. It also holds the Portuguese Discovery Monument, a granite tribute to navigators with sixteen bollards in a semicircle representing the points of the compass. Pets are welcome, and restrooms are open May 1 to October 31.
