Steeped in history, Fort Adams State Park is best known for its annual summer jazz and folk festival concerts. At the mouth of Newport Harbor, it offers a panoramic view of the harbor and the East Passage of Narragansett Bay. Deeded to the state in 1965 after serving the U.S. Navy and the U.S. Army, the park offers tours of the historic fort (operated by the nonprofit Fort Adams Trust), saltwater bathing, fishing, boating, soccer, rugby and picnicking. Sail Newport offers sailing instruction and rentals. The Eisenhower House is also part of the park. Parts of the park close for special events, so check before visiting.
