Mormon Station State Historic Park, established in 1957, marks the site of Nevada's first permanent, non-native settlement, built in 1851 as a trading post along the California Trail. It sits in Genoa with lush lawns and mature trees at the base of the Sierra Nevada's eastern slope in the Carson River Basin. The park has a reconstructed 1851 trading post that serves as a museum, the 1856 Kinsey House, a 1908 blacksmith shop, a historic stockade, a wagon shed, and the Campbell Homestead with an apple orchard and demonstration garden. Visitors picnic and take self-guided walking tours. Museum hours are 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily from May through September and 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. from October through April, closed Tuesdays and Wednesdays.
