Pachaug State Forest, including the Camp Quinnebaug area near Voluntown, is Connecticut's largest state forest at about 27,000 acres. Deep woods, quiet swamps and winding trails make it a great place to spend a long day outdoors. The forest has miles of trails, including sections of the Nehantic and Pachaug trails, and Great Meadow Swamp offers a peaceful boardwalk-style setting for wildlife watching. The size of the forest means visitors can find real solitude, and its habitats support a wide variety of birds and other animals. Entry is free. Bring a map and plenty of water, since the forest is large and trail junctions can be confusing.
