Oregon Trail Ruts preserves some of the best surviving evidence of the great overland migration. Emigrants on the California, Oregon and Mormon trails struggled up from the river bottom to the rocky High Plains here, and thousands of wagon wheels wore ruts into the soft sandstone, in places more than five feet deep. The ruts are a short walk from the parking area. The site is open to the public from sunrise to sunset. Coordinates are approximate.
