Cheraw State Park is the oldest state park in South Carolina and one of 16 built by the Civilian Conservation Corps. It sits in the Sandhills with pines, cypress wetlands and Lake Juniper. Paddlers can explore Lake Juniper by kayak or canoe, and a boardwalk along the cypress edge offers fishing and wildlife viewing. The park has biking and hiking trails and an 18-hole championship golf course, which is closed for renovation until about October 2026 while the pro shop and driving range remain open. Nine cabins and a campground provide overnight options.
