Adams Homestead and Nature Preserve spans about 1,500 acres along the Missouri River near North Sioux City. Mary and Maud Adams, granddaughters of the original homesteader Stephen Searls Adams, donated the land to the people of South Dakota in 1984. The sisters wanted a place where people, especially young people, could enjoy the land and learn about the natural world. Visitors can hike and bike the trails, watch birds, follow interpretive signs, visit the museum and take in the area's history. Archery, hunting in season and cross-country skiing are also allowed. It is a day-use area with no camping.
