Hunting Island is South Carolina's most visited state park, drawing more than a million visitors a year. It has five miles of beach, thousands of acres of marsh and maritime forest, a saltwater lagoon and an ocean inlet. The historic lighthouse, built in 1859 and rebuilt in 1875 after the Civil War, is made of cast-iron sections and was moved inland in 1889 because of erosion. Visitors can climb it for views of the island and the Atlantic. The campground has about 100 sites with water and electric hookups, and cabins are also available.
