Edisto Beach State Park is one of South Carolina's four oceanfront state parks, on 1,255 acres with a long history of Native American use. It has more than four miles of accessible trails that lead through maritime forest and out to hammock islands. The Environmental Learning Center shows fossils, live animals and exhibits about the island and the ACE Basin. Beachcombing, shelling and birdwatching are popular, and the beach is a draw for visitors from across the state. Cabins sit in the woods, and campsites are found along the oceanfront and in the shaded maritime forest.
