St. Phillips Island is a secluded 4,680-acre barrier island, a National Natural Landmark once owned by media entrepreneur Ted Turner. It combines ancient dune ridges with old-growth maritime forest and a mile of undeveloped beach. Eight miles of trails lead from boneyard beaches into the forest. The island is reachable only by boat, so visitors go on guided day trips with a naturalist or book a multi-night stay. The historic Turner House, with five bedrooms and a large screened porch over the Atlantic, can be rented for groups. The address listed is the Hunting Island State Park office, which manages bookings; the coordinates are the island itself.
