Ka'ena Point State Park marks the wild western tip of Oahu, where the coastline turns rocky and remote. The rugged lava shoreline, crashing surf and sweeping ocean views give the area a raw and untamed character far from the crowds of Honolulu. The park protects a seabird sanctuary, and the shore trails offer chances to see nesting seabirds, native coastal plants and, at times, resting monk seals. Trails from both the north and south sides lead to the point, and the walk is one of the island's most memorable coastal hikes. Entry is free. Bring water, sun protection and sturdy shoes, keep a respectful distance from wildlife, and stay on the marked paths to protect this fragile habitat.
