Nu'uanu Pali State Wayside is a windswept lookout on the cliffs above Honolulu, with sweeping views across Oahu's windward coast. The steep green cliffs, patchwork of towns and ocean beyond make it one of the island's most dramatic viewpoints. The site has great historical importance as the location of the 1795 Battle of Nuuanu, a decisive event in King Kamehameha's unification of the islands. The wind here can be strong enough to take your breath away, adding to the sense of drama. Parking costs $3 per vehicle. Hold onto hats and loose items, and allow time to read the historical signs and enjoy the view.
