Jones Gap State Park fills a deep mountain cove along the Middle Saluda River, South Carolina's first designated scenic river. It is quiet, forested and much loved by hikers and anglers. With Caesars Head State Park, it forms the roughly 17,000-acre Mountain Bridge Wilderness Area. Trails connect the two parks and link to sections of the Foothills Trail and the Palmetto Trail. The Middle Saluda is one of the state's best trout streams. Trailside camping is available for hikers on longer routes. Trails close an hour before dark.
