Henry W. Coe State Park near Morgan Hill is California's second-largest state park, with about 87,000 acres of rugged Diablo Range wilderness. Rolling hills, deep canyons and open grasslands make it a vast and remote landscape just south of the Bay Area. The park is a favorite for backpacking, mountain biking, horseback riding and long hikes, and wildflowers carpet the hills in spring. Wildlife such as deer, wild pigs and birds of prey is common, and the sweeping views from ridgelines reach across the valleys. Entry is $10 per vehicle. Summer temperatures can be very hot, so spring and fall are the best times to visit.
