High Falls State Park near Jackson is built around the tumbling waterfalls of the Towaliga River, which drop over a rocky ledge in the middle of central Georgia. The falls and the ruins of an old mill town nearby give the park both scenery and a sense of history. Trails follow the river and pass the falls, while a large lake offers fishing and paddling. Campsites along the shore provide a relaxed base, and the park's location makes it a popular Atlanta-area getaway. Parking is $5 per vehicle, and camping is $20 to $42 per night. Water levels are best after rain, when the falls are at their most impressive.
