Cold Spring Harbor State Park has a mixed hardwood forest with large oaks about three feet in diameter and thickets of wild mountain laurel. It is a good place to watch spring and fall songbird migrations, and great horned owls and red-tailed hawks live there. The park is the northern trailhead of the Nassau Suffolk Greenbelt Trail, which reaches toward Bethpage State Park and the south shore of Nassau County.
