Black Rock Mountain State Park near Mountain City is Georgia's highest state park, sitting at about 3,640 feet in the Blue Ridge Mountains. It lies along the Eastern Continental Divide, where water on one side flows toward the Atlantic and on the other toward the Gulf of Mexico. Overlooks provide long-range views across ridge after ridge of the southern Appalachians, and trails wander through hardwood forest to a small mountain lake. Campsites, cabins and picnic areas make it easy to spend a weekend enjoying the cool mountain air. Parking is $5 per vehicle, and camping runs $20 to $42 per night. Mornings and evenings offer the best light for photography, and fall color is especially spectacular.
