Prairie Grove is one of the most intact Civil War battlefields in America, with more than 1,000 acres. It commemorates the Battle of Prairie Grove on December 7, 1862, when Confederate and Union forces clashed in a day of fighting that caused 2,700 casualties and was the last major Civil War engagement in Northwest Arkansas. The park offers walking and driving tours, programs and weekend events, and the museum displays artifacts from the battle. Arkansas's largest Civil War battle re-enactment is held here every even-numbered year. The museum is open Wednesday-Saturday 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday 1 to 5 p.m.
