Landsford Canal State Park lies along the Catawba River at the fall line and protects the preserved remains of the canal system that made the river navigable from 1820 to 1835. The locks and canal structures can be walked and studied. The river here holds the largest known stand of rocky shoals spider lilies, which bloom mid-May to mid-June and draw visitors every year. Fishing is allowed along the river, a paddling trail passes through the park, and picnicking and nature watching are common day-use activities.
