Barnegat Lighthouse State Park stands at the northern tip of Long Beach Island, where Old Barney guided ships past the shoals and swift currents of the Barnegat Inlet. Climbing the lighthouse rewards visitors with views of Barnegat Bay, Island Beach and Long Beach Island. The Interpretive Center tells the story of the lighthouse, and the Maritime Forest Trail runs through one of New Jersey's last remaining maritime forests. Birdwatching and fishing are popular, and the park is a stop on the New Jersey Coastal Heritage Trail.
