Clermont was the country seat of the Livingston family. It began as a Georgian mansion and was added onto over the years. Seven generations of Livingstons lived here along with dozens of enslaved people and paid servants, and tenant farmers worked the surrounding land. The estate shrank over time through sales, gifts and inheritance until it reached its present boundaries. The mansion is open for tours year-round, Thursday-Sunday 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., with tours on the hour. The visitor center is open Thursday-Sunday 10:30 a.m. to 4 p.m., and the gardens and grounds are open daily 8:30 a.m. to sunset. The site also has hiking and equestrian trails, a picnic area and a gift shop.
