Huntington Beach State Park is a wide, undeveloped stretch of Grand Strand beach with a freshwater lake, salt marsh and maritime forest. It is known for surf fishing and for some of the best birdwatching on the East Coast. Atalaya, the Moorish-style winter home of Archer and Anna Hyatt Huntington, stands near the beach, and the couple's legacy also includes the adjacent Brookgreen Gardens. The park runs nature programs, including turtle-related events, and the lake is a reliable place to see alligators. A campground near the sea breeze offers overnight stays.
