Shadmoor State Park is named for its open, rolling land and the shadbush that grows there. It also has bluffs, freshwater wetlands that are part of the preserve, hiking trails and elevated platforms for birdwatching and shoreline views. Visitors may picnic and saltwater fish. The foliage includes black cherry trees and clusters of the rare, federally endangered sandplain gerardia. Two concrete World War II bunkers, once equipped with artillery to protect the coast, remain.
