Cow Creek Recreation Area, about 15 miles northwest of Pierre, is a favorite for fishing, boating and watching the waves of Lake Oahe. The Oahe Reservoir, on the Missouri River, offers hours of outdoor fun. Both primitive shoreline camping and campground camping are available: the shoreline sites have views of the reservoir and plenty of privacy, while the campground has drinking water and restrooms with showers. There are 46 campsites and four camping cabins. Paddleboarding, canoeing and kayaking are popular.
