Great Council State Park stands on the site of the Shawnee village of Old Chillicothe and honors the history of the Native Americans and European settlers of the region. It is described as the newest Ohio state park. Its highlight is a 12,000-square-foot interpretive center modeled after a historic Shawnee longhouse, with hands-on historic displays, gallery space with exhibits on the region's cultures and modern Shawnee life, and a theater space showing a short film. School groups can schedule tours covering history, heritage, geography and the economics of the 1800s, including the culture of the Shawnee who lived on this land.
