Sweetwater Creek State Park in Lithia Springs is a rugged creek valley just west of Atlanta, known for its rapids and rocky shoals. The park is the most visited in the Georgia state park system, thanks to its scenic trails and easy access from the city. Trails follow the creek to the ruins of the New Manchester Manufacturing Company, a textile mill destroyed during the Civil War, and other paths lead through forest and along the reservoir. Paddling, fishing and picnicking are popular, and yurts offer a unique overnight option. Parking is $5 per vehicle, and camping runs $20 to $42 per night. Weekends can be crowded, so arrive early for parking and a quieter walk.
