Staunton River State Park is tucked into the heart of Virginia, about 25 miles from the North Carolina border. The 2,400-acre park has woodlands, meadows and shoreline along the Dan and Staunton rivers. Cabins built in the 1930s by the Civilian Conservation Corps and a campground offer overnight lodging. An equestrian campground has large campsites and horse stalls, and access to Buggs Island Lake, Virginia's largest lake, offers freshwater fishing.
