Lake Poinsett is a small, quiet park suited to a weekend away or a few hours of fishing. It has boat rentals, a launch ramp and a bait shop, and the day-use area has picnic tables, a heated and cooled pavilion, a playground and an open field for ball games. Year-round interpretive programs cover wildlife and local history, with trail hikes and kayak tours. The 29 campsites are 12 Class A, 14 Class B and three tent sites. From Harrisburg the park is one mile east on Hwy. 14, then two miles south on Hwy. 163. The visitor center is open daily 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. from March through November.
