Union Pacific State Recreation Area is a 26-acre area west of Kearney, just off Interstate 80, built around a 12-acre lake for boating, picnicking, fishing, and camping. Anglers catch bluegill, channel catfish, redear sunfish, walleye, yellow perch, and smallmouth bass. Boats are limited to electric motors and non-powered craft with a 5 mph speed limit, and there is a gravel ramp. Picnickers have eight tables, three grills, and three shelters. Camping is first-come, first-served at five non-pad sites without electricity, with payment at an Iron Ranger using cash or check.
