Dead Timber State Recreation Area is a 200-acre park northwest of Omaha on Highway 275. Its 50-acre Oxbow Lake formed when the Elkhorn River changed course before the 1850s, and it holds bullhead, bluegill, carp, catfish, crappie, and bass. Visitors boat with electric or non-powered boats, fish, hike, hunt, and picnic. The park is next to Powder Horn Wildlife Management Area and has wildlife viewing blinds. The campground has 17 electric sites with 30-amp hookups, first-come, first-served, with self-pay at an Iron Ranger. Four primitive sites are unavailable because of flood damage. Drinking water and primitive restrooms are provided, with no dump station.
