Stillwater State Park is in Groton State Forest on Lake Groton. Native Americans and French travelers used routes through Groton to Canada and Massachusetts as early as 1704, and the area's connected waterways drew colonists earlier than other parts of Vermont. The rocky hillsides were once covered with white pine, spruce, hemlock, beech, maple and birch. The park is a campground with lean-to sites, open from the third weekend in May to mid-September.
