Maidstone keeps much of the character of the Northeast Kingdom. Maidstone Lake was created when glacial ice carved out a deep basin in an existing valley, and when the glaciers melted 12,000 years ago a deep, clear, cold lake formed. The lake offers good lake trout fishing, with some outstanding record catches, and is a good place to see nesting loons. Season runs from the Friday of Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day weekend. An open-air pavilion can be rented.
