North Sterling State Park near Sterling is a large reservoir park on Colorado's northeastern plains. The lake, surrounded by open prairie, is a major recreation destination in an area with few other big bodies of water. Boating and fishing are the main activities, with anglers targeting species such as walleye and wiper. Camping and picnic areas make the park a comfortable choice for a weekend, and the wide horizons and big skies make for excellent sunsets. A daily parks pass costs $10 per vehicle, and camping runs $18 to $36 per night. Bring sun protection, since shade can be limited on the plains.
