Anaconda Smoke Stack State Park centers on the smelter stack finished in 1919, which stands 585 feet tall and ranks among the tallest free-standing brick structures in the world. It is 75 feet across inside at the base, narrowing to 60 feet at the top, and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places as a legacy of the Anaconda Copper Company smelter, which operated until 1980. Visitors can observe and photograph the stack only from designated viewing areas near Goodman Park, where interpretive signs give historical context. It is a site for photography, heritage interpretation, and history exploration rather than for hiking or camping. The viewing areas are open year-round during daylight hours.
