Yampa River State Park near Hayden protects a stretch of the free-flowing Yampa River in northwest Colorado. The Yampa is one of the last major undammed rivers in the Colorado River system, and the park offers a chance to enjoy it up close. A campground and river access points serve anglers, floaters and wildlife watchers, and the river corridor covers about 13 miles. Cottonwoods and open valley views give the area a peaceful character, and birds and other wildlife are common along the water. A daily parks pass costs $10 per vehicle, and camping runs $18 to $36 per night. Water levels vary through the season, so check conditions before floating.
