Cedar Bluff State Park sits on Cedar Bluff Reservoir in the Smoky Hills region of western Kansas, a landscape where cedar-covered limestone bluffs rise above the water in contrast to the flatter High Plains terrain further west. The park is split into two distinct areas, Bluffton and Page Creek, offering visitors a choice of settings on opposite sides of the lake. The park also sits along the historic route of the Butterfield Overland Despatch, a stagecoach line that once carried mail and passengers across the plains, and interpretive markers connect the modern recreation area to that 19th-century transportation history. An archery range and BMX track add active-recreation options not found at every Kansas state park. Cabins, campgrounds, and boat ramps around the reservoir support fishing, boating, and swimming, and the bluff scenery makes it one of the more visually distinctive lake parks in western Kansas, drawing visitors from a wide radius given the relatively sparse population of the surrounding region.
