Steinaker Reservoir is an unusual water storage facility, fed by a canal from a diversion dam on Ashley Creek and one of the first units of the Central Utah Project. It stores runoff to irrigate the Ashley Valley and is named for General William H. Ashley, a leader of the fur trade in the 1820s and 1830s. The park is a water-recreation destination, with boating, fishing, swimming, kayaking, camping and hookup sites, cabins, a boat launch and trails for hiking and biking.
