China Camp State Park near San Rafael preserves a rare piece of California's Chinese American history. In the 1880s, a village of Chinese shrimp fishermen thrived here on the shore of San Pablo Bay, and remnants of that community can still be seen. Visitors can explore the historic village site and museum, then hike or bike shoreline and ridge trails through oak and bay woodlands. Views across the bay are lovely, and the park's quiet marshes and hills feel worlds away from the nearby city. Day use is $10 per vehicle, and camping runs $35 to $50 per night. It is a great choice for a mix of history and outdoor recreation in Marin County.
