Fenwick Island State Park preserves a narrow stretch of Delaware's Atlantic coast near the Maryland line, with about three miles of relatively undeveloped beach. Dunes, sea grass and open shoreline give it a quieter, more natural feel than the busier resort beaches nearby. Visitors come for swimming, sunbathing, surf fishing and long beach walks, with the bay side of the park offering calmer water for paddling and birdwatching. The undeveloped shoreline is a good place to watch shorebirds and enjoy sunrise or sunset views over the water. Entry is $4 for Delaware residents and $8 for out-of-state visitors on weekdays, and $8 and $16 on weekends, from March through November. Bring what you need for the day, since the park is intentionally simple and low-key.
