Old Mission State Park in Cataldo protects the Sacred Heart Mission, the oldest standing building in Idaho. Constructed in the 1850s by the Coeur d'Alene Tribe together with Jesuit missionaries, the church is a remarkable example of frontier craftsmanship. Visitors can tour the mission and nearby parish house, learn about the Coeur d'Alene people through exhibits and walk the grounds above the river valley. The park also connects to nearby trails and the scenic Coeur d'Alene River area. Entry is $5 per vehicle. It is an easy and rewarding stop for anyone interested in the history of northern Idaho and the people who shaped it.
