For thousands of years people have trekked to the rock hills of Hueco Tanks in far west Texas, first for the rainwater pooled in natural rock basins called huecos. Visitors today see the imagery left by those ancient people, and many Native American tribes consider Hueco Tanks part of their heritage. Visitors hike, rock climb, camp, watch birds and stargaze, and can take guided and self-guided tours to view the rock imagery. An interpretive center is in a historic ranch house. The park has active alerts posted.
