Fort Toulouse-Fort Jackson Park is a National Historic Landmark about a mile south of Wetumpka, where the Coosa and Tallapoosa Rivers meet to form the Alabama River. The site has been occupied for roughly 10,000 years. It includes a recreated 1751 French fort, recreated Creek Indian houses and a partially restored 1814 American fort. Visitors can see a roughly 1,000-year-old Indian mound and walk the William Bartram Nature Trail. The park hosts living history events, including Alabama Frontier Days, and has a boat ramp and a rentable pavilion. A campground is operated here under posted campground rules; call the park for site details and rates.
