Schramm Park State Recreation Area is home to the former Gretna State Fish Hatchery, the oldest state fish hatchery in Nebraska, which operated for nearly 100 years before the area became a state recreation area in 1937. The Schramm Education Center has aquariums and a geologic fossil display, and a new treehouse classroom is open select hours (call ahead). A trail system of 1.5 to 3 miles includes a suspension bridge, with access to the Platte River. Visitors hike, bike, kayak, picnic, watch birds, and cross-country ski when there is snow. A playground is on site. There is no camping; nearby options include Louisville State Recreation Area, Mahoney State Park, and Platte River State Park. The area is open year-round from sunrise to sunset.
