Sylvan Lake State Park south of Eagle is a small, postcard-pretty alpine lake set in a box canyon of the White River National Forest. Aspen slopes and evergreens surround the water, making it a beautiful place at any time of year. Visitors can fish, paddle and hike along the shoreline and nearby trails. A small campground gives overnight visitors a quiet place to stay, and fall color is a highlight when the aspens turn gold. A daily parks pass costs $10 per vehicle, and camping runs $18 to $36 per night. Its small size and mountain setting make it a peaceful getaway.
