Jones Lake State Park is in Bladen County, about 40 miles southeast of Fayetteville. It opened as the first state park to welcome Black Americans and has long been a community destination for picnicking, swimming, hiking and paddling. Tea-colored water hides the shallow depth of the lake, which reaches only eight feet. Jones Lake and nearby Salters Lake are Carolina bays, elliptical depressions along the Atlantic coast. Camping and boat rentals are available.
