Jamaica State Park covers 772 acres and opened in 1969. The land once held small farms and a sawmill, and the West River Railroad ran through it from about 1879 until a flood destroyed much of the line in 1927. The former railroad bed is now a trail that follows the West River toward Ball Mountain Dam. Season runs from the third weekend in May through the second Monday in October.
