Palisades State Park is one of the most unusual landscapes in South Dakota. Split Rock Creek runs through the park, lined with Sioux quartzite formations ranging from low shelves to 50-foot vertical cliffs. Hiking, rock viewing, fishing, paddling and geocaching are popular. The park now uses a new entrance at 48422 256th Street. Rock climbing is a draw for experienced climbers, and the quartzite cliffs are the park's signature. There are two campgrounds with 111 campsites, ten camping cabins and a group lodge.
