Oak Mountain State Park in Pelham is the largest state park in Alabama, covering more than 9,900 acres of forested ridges, lakes and streams just south of Birmingham. Its size and variety make it one of the most popular parks in the state. Visitors can hike and bike on extensive trail networks, ride horses, fish and swim in the lakes, play golf, try the BMX track or visit the wildlife center. Waterfalls and rocky overlooks add to the scenery, and there is camping for those who want to stay longer. Admission is $5 for adults 12 and older, $2 for children 4 to 11 and seniors 62 and older, and free for children under 4 and military. Weekends can be busy, so arrive early for the best trail conditions.
